Youth Leadership Upson 2012
Members of the Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce 2011-2012 Youth Leadership Upson Program have been selected. They are Mary Coker, Matt Crawford, Banks Fletcher, Davie Hudgins, Lucy Jones, Sarah Jordan, Haley Phillips, Tyler Pittman, Brooke Seay, Jade Shumate, Leah Smith and Savannah Suarez. Shelley Daniel representing the T-U School System is Chair of the youth program Bobby Bickley representing Bank of Upson and Dan Kilgore representing Upson County Sheriff’s Department are both Vice-Chairs.
Sponsored by The Thomaston-Upson Chamber of Commerce, Upson EMC, Ten Cate’, Camp Thunder Boy Scout Reservation and American Pie Pizzeria, the group began their sessions with an orientation on October 6, 2011 at the Upson EMC Warehouse building and then met for a full day of Camp Thunder activity on October 13.
At Camp Thunder they learned leadership, team building and problem solving skills and facing personal fears. The class will meet every month throughout the school year to learn more about the various industries, local city, county, state government, healthcare and recreation located in Thomaston and how it all works together. They will visit the State Capitol in February. The program will be topped off with the selection of one student taking part in the Upson EMC trip to Washington, D.C. for an outstanding leadership experience. YLU is touring some of the local industries in Upson County today.
