"Floating the Flint" can provide fun for both amateurs and experts. Whether
you want a lazy day casually floating on the water in an inner tube, or if
you're looking for the excitement and challenge of true white water, you'll
find it on the Flint River. There are rapids ranging in difficulty from
Class II near Sprewell Bluff to Class III and IV in the
infamous Yellow Jacket Shoals. Canoeing and kayaking on the Yellow Jacket
Shoals is recommended for experts only!
Flint River Outdoor Center is a local company that rent
canoes, as well as offer fishing, hiking, camping and modern lodging.
Sprewell Bluff State Park is also located on the Flint
River in Upson County. Visitors can cool off in the gently flowing
river, picnic on the river's edge, toss horseshoes in a grassy field, hike a
three-mile trail along the bank and up rocky bluffs, or use the boat ramp to
launch your canoe, kayak or small fishing boat. There are also barbeque
grills, a children's playground and restrooms. For more information visit the
Sprewell
Bluff State Park page.
